Karl Hedeen, PT, Owner

Karl Hedeen

Karl and his wife Heidi both grew up in Stanwood, met as high school sweethearts and recently celebrated 30 years of marriage. They have 3 children, Henry, Gus, and Sigrid. Henry is living and working in Santa Barbara, CA after playing baseball and completing his undergraduate degree in Kinesiology from Westmont College. Gus is attending Foster School of Business at the University of Washington in Seattle, with a graduation date of June, 2021. Sigrid is attending Eastern Washington University with plans to obtain an undergraduate degree in Exercise Science: Pre-Physical Therapy. In 2011, Karl was included as part of the 1984 Oregon Track Team induction ceremony into the University of Oregon Athletics Hall of Fame. He completed his physical therapy education at Northwestern University in Chicago in 1989. He started NorthSound Physical Therapy in 1992 with Marty Stanton, and currently performs patient care in the Oak Harbor clinic. Karl enjoys all family-related activities, which typically involve sports of some kind, and he also finds time to get involved in various other volunteer activities.

Heidi Verrall, PT, MPT, Cert MDT

Heidi Verrall

Heidi is originally from Boise, Idaho, where she worked for 11 years in outpatient orthopedic physical therapy. She moved to Washington in November, 2012, when she joined NorthSound Physical Therapy.

Heidi graduated with her Bachelor’s degree from Colorado State University in 1997, and received her Master’s in Physical Therapy from Idaho State University in 2001. She received her certification in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy through the McKenzie Institute International in 2009. Heidi’s interests include snowboarding, mountain biking, hiking and spending time with her husband, son, and dog.

Sheila VonBergen, PT, MPT

Stanwood Sheila VonBergen

Sheila VonBergen was born in Loma Linda, CA and grew up in Eastern Washington. During those years, she was actively involved in team sports and gymnastics, competing at the state level and later working as a gymnastics and aerobics instructor for many years. Sheila attended Walla Walla University, where she met her husband Scott before pursuing a Master of Physical Therapy degree at Loma Linda University.

After earning her MPT degree in 1993, Sheila worked as a physical therapist in both in- and out-patient settings for Kaiser Permanente in Riverside, California, where she received a distinguished award for Outstanding Service. From 1996 to 2004 Sheila’s PT experience encompassed outpatient orthopedics, sports and active rehabilitation and home health physical therapy. She was also a regular guest lecturer for the SDA Wellness Center and served on the Guam National Olympic Committee. In 2003 she earned an MBA from the University of Guam.

Sheila has enjoyed working with patients and staff at NorthSound Physical Therapy since 2006. She is devoted to her family and local church, and actively pursues experiences in hiking, biking, snow boarding, SCUBA diving, snorkeling, outdoor photography, and travel. Because good health is her passion, Sheila endeavors to provide her patients with a high quality of care that reflects a personal commitment to wellness.

Stacey Killian, PTA

Stanwood Stacey Killian

Stacey Killian joined NSPT in 1997 after graduating from the PTA program at Whatcom Community College. She enjoys the challenge of working with people of different ages and fitness levels and love to help them get back to the activities they enjoy. When she is not at NSPT, you will find Stacey on the trails of Whatcom County with her family.

Dan Markle, PTA

Dan-Markle

A native of Southern California, Dan received his Physical Therapist Assistant degree from Professional Skills Institute of Santa Barbara in 2002. After several years of working in the neuro-cognitive field in California, he moved to Oak Harbor in 2006. Dan also has extensive experience as a martial arts business owner, instructor and competitor, and has been nationally ranked as high as #4 in North America in the sport karate industry. Since relocating to the Pacific Northwest, Dan enjoys kayaking, hiking and mountain biking. He strives to motivate his clients to be proactive and positive on their path to wellness
